By Carol Davis

Various professionals who work in the fire and police department are men and women who face the dangers of their job on a fairly regular basis. In order to become skilled and knowledgeable in what they do, they must first undergo certain training and examinations until qualified to pass. Even when they have already attained their license, these people are still required to join some seminars to help keep them updated on the latest offense and defense techniques.

Fortunately, there is a multitude of courses available that they can enroll in to help them improve their skills in combat and defense. These are called Active Killer Response Training, and are often organized by officers who have a lot of experience in the field. Listed below are the various topics they discuss during these courses.

Majority of the participants in this event are police officers who are looking to improve themselves to further in their career. One of the key elements of being an excellent officer is having sufficient knowledge on the opponent. This is especially true when they are dealing with serial killers and criminals whom they need to catch. By having enough information about them, capturing them will be easier.

People who work in a fire and police department is human too, which means they have fears and limitations like everybody else. Acknowledging these limitations is important because it helps improve their quality of work. Working in this industry means valuing the importance of teamwork, not just individual credit.

While in school, majority of hands on training is focused on short range shooting and hand to hand combat. As a result, some officers are lacking skills when it comes to fighting in large areas like a warehouse or an open area, such as a park. In the course, they are exposed to this setting and taught the proper methods to corner a criminal.

In real life situations, it is not all about defeating an opponent. In most cases, there is a need to rescue men and women from certain hazards, which include fire accidents. During the session, people most especially firemen, are taught effective ways in rescuing individuals from a burning building or home. This is done even without fire gear, to help in sudden accidents wherein they may not have their gear with them.

A common misapprehension that people have is that these seminars focus on one particular area only. The truth is, the instructors are well versed in the various topics in their line of work. This generally includes a range of activities and lesions that entails gun safety, ballistic armor, explosives, and dealing with multiple perpetrators. The goal here is to help these professionals become prepared for any given situation they may encounter.

When a person is working in this type of profession, they know the importance of time. Whenever a criminal escapes or a victim becomes injured, it could have been prevented if they had arrived at the scene of the crime a minute or two early. That is why response training places these professionals in situations wherein it is essential to think and act quickly.

Aside from traditional methods, they are also taught offender tactics that are not considered the standard. Miscreants are often creative and unpredictable when at work, and you never know what may be running through their minds. Due to this, officers are taught how to think outside the box and predict what are the possible scenarios going through their minds.
