Using Reed Diffusers In Your Home

By Susan Cooper

Would you prefer to come home to a stuffy house, which smells like last night's dinner, or would you rather walk into a hallway that smells of jasmine? Most people would agree on the pleasant smelling house and choose to use reed diffusers throughout the house for exactly that purpose. They allow you to select a custom scent to fragrance your home.

By using a reed diffuser, you will eliminate the need for burning of incense sticks or fragrance candles, thereby removing the mess of soot and the potential hazard of fire. Every room in your house could have an individual identity by choosing a smell for each room from the vast array of options available. Your bedroom could smell like calming lavender, your kitchen could smell like citrus and your living room could smell like jasmine. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

The size and style of diffuser chosen depending on individual needs and taste and they can be found in most stores. You should easily find something that will match your room decor. There is also a vast array of scents and fragrances to choose from, allowing you to match the room and your preferences.

A fragrance diffuser consists of three parts, the rattan reeds, the oils and the container. The container, usually a small glass bottle, will either come with the pleasant smelling oil already in it, along with a small packet of reeds which act as the carrier for the oils, or the oil would be in a separate container for you to refill your glass display bottle. Ensure you keep the refill in a cool dark area to preserve the contents.

To start using your diffuser, insert the reeds into the small bottle. The reeds will gradually absorb oil, allowing the fragrance to permeate the air. Make sure you place the container onto a small plate or mat to prevent surface damage and keep away from pets and young children.

Keep your glass diffuser bottle on a window ledge, or near an air vent. The movement of the air and gentle breezes will diffuse the chosen fragrant oils through the room and leave you to enjoy a fresh smelling home.

The reeds should be carefully flipped over if you need a fresh burst of fragrance or if you think the scent has faded, usually weekly. The reeds can and should be replaced if they become clogged or dusty as this will prevent them from emitting the scent. It is advised to replace the reeds every time you refill the bottle. Before refilling the bottle, wash it thoroughly with warm, soapy water and allow it to dry completely.

Be aware that a better quality oil will offer you a much longer lasting result. The cheaper oils that are available on the market will be made with imitation products and not endure, leaving you feeling displeased with the result. Spending the extra money on the genuine oils will ensure that you are able to enjoy the scent you selected as it permeates your house for as long as four months.
