By Margaret Cook

Nobody wants to find themselves walking alone late at night or trying to find their car in a dark parking lot by themselves. Scary stories about people being attacked in such situations are everywhere, which just adds to the anxiety. But if you learn how to defend yourself using Krav Maga Oklahoma, you will be prepared if you do ever find yourself the victim of an attack, which could truly save your life.

The two words Krav and Maga literally mean 'contact combat' in Hebrew, the language of Israel, where the technique was invented. This discipline is meant for self-defense in situations where someone is physically assaulting you. Using the techniques, you can fend them off, stun them and run away to safety so you can call the police.

This is easily one of the best self defense techniques that are available learn. It has been proven in the field over and over, and is very easy to learn. In fact, you can learn and practice various moves and techniques easily, mastering them in far less time than other martial arts. It is also a great workout, so you will likely build some muscle and lose weight in the process, which is a great added bonus.

Many places train their police officers in this type of combat. Even some armies learn it, especially the Israeli army. In fact, it is a part of their basic training, so everyone gets the chance to master this technique. Luckily, you do not have to be enrolled in the military or a law enforcement training program to learn. Anyone can join a class.

There is no need to be in shape or get in shape to take these classes. Just show up and be ready and willing to work. The instructors know how to break things down to make them easy for all proficiency levels, so you will pick things up quickly and easily.

Many instructors also teach Krav Maga as a mindset, not just techniques and moves. The reason is that in an attack situation, your nerves and anxiousness will make you 50 percent less likely to remember what you have learned. But with the right mindset, you can remember everything and fight off your attacker.

Check your local fitness clubs or gyms to see which ones offer Krav Maga classes. Many offer them for additional fees, though some may be included in your membership if you have one. These are generally open to all members, so there are multiple people to learn with. However, if you think you would learn better or faster with one-on-one sessions, then inquire about private classes instead. You can choose from weekly or more frequent sessions.

Some gyms will offer you a free trial class to start. This means they waive the usual fee so you can try a class without any pressure and make sure it is right for you. If you decide you do like the class, you can then sign up for additional classes and be on your way to protecting yourself from potential harm.
