Basic Information When Looking For Metal Fabrication Companies

By Donald Johnson

Metal fabrication is the process of making metal structures and machines using raw materials by cutting, bending and assembling processes. Some examples of raw materials in this procedure are welding wire, plate metal, fittings and castings. These are needed to be cut into shape and size by using band saws or cutting torches.

There may come a time that you want something to be made of and you are looking for metal fabricators, also called as fab shops to do it for you. You can find some who does a Richmond metal fabrication job in the area. Here are some tips in finding one.

Inquire about the experiences they have working with projects that are the same to what you have in mind. Ask for images of the works they previously made and particularly those that are the same to what you have. There are companies who are only able to work until a particular size of the product because of the equipment and space that is available to them. These things would help you decide if the shop could make it.

Find one that has a good reputation and is willing to give references of their previous customers when you ask for it. You can also check the internet for any reviews about them and works that they had done. It will also show you how they deal with their customers and how they value each one of them.

Ask for an estimated total cost from different companies so you will be able to compare them with each other. This would include a detailed list of all the materials that they will be using and the charges they would ask for such as the labor and delivery. Compare these things that each company uses and determine which has the better quality and deal offered.

Ask on how long will it take for them to finish the product you requested. Have a discussion about the deadline with them and negotiate with them the duration of the project that you both can agree with. The good fabricators can honestly answer you and provide explanations on why these procedures take these long. This would include the time allocated for acquiring the materials and delivering the finished product.

Inquire about the industries that they worked with to know which guidelines they have a knowledge of. If the company ever worked with industries that demands high standards then you will have an idea of their capabilities. It is also advantageous if they have worked in the industry that you are in.

Make sure the raw materials and the products they will use in the fabrication of your piece is of great quality. Research about the durability and if it could last longer. Some shops may offer their services for a lower price but there is a chance that the quality of their work is compromised.

Visit their facilities and check their equipment to get an idea of how capable they are in producing the piece you need. Check if the materials they possess have a variety and if they have enough working space. Think about these things when coming up with your decision.
