How To Rejuvenate Your Kitchen Or Bathroom Using A Glass Backsplash

By William Wood

If you want a fresh new look in a kitchen or bathroom but do not want to spend a lot of money on renovations there are ways to change things there are many ways that you can do so. One thing to consider is adding a glass backsplash to the surfaces surrounding a sink in your kitchen, bathroom or even laundry room. Here are a few things to consider so that you can get the look you want while only spending what your budget will allow.

A backsplash is usually made out of a material that is not easily damaged by water. It is used most often behind a sink of some sort so that any water that splashes up does not damage the wall itself. While some people use paint or decorative finishes to create the look of a backsplash they need to keep in mind that excess moisture could damage paint or other materials.

If you like the idea of glass tile but are worried that it will be damaged easily you may want to think about using it in a backsplash. This is because it will be sitting on the wall and will not have to handle being struck by heavy objects. Therefore the surface of the tile is unlikely to chip or crack the way it would if it was used as a countertop or as part of a tile floor. Glass can bring a lot of light and sparkle into a room and comes in a wide selection of colors that will coordinate with your room's color scheme.

You might want to look at different samples of glass tiles in order to find out what sizes, colors and finishes are available. You might even want to try taking samples home to see what each looks like in your home. Don't think you are limited to only one kind of tile.

One thing to think about as well is whether you want to use tiles from your backsplash in other areas of the room or the house. A number of individuals in California will use small sections of backsplash tile in other areas such as bath surrounds and shower surrounds. This can give a great cohesive look to any room in your home.

You may want to consider tiles that are set on a mesh sheet. This is a good idea if you are putting the tiles on yourself since they will have been spaced properly and it will be easy to grout the area once your tiles are on the wall. Mesh sheets will also allow you to remove small areas so that you can accommodate outlets, light switches and other similar objects.

If you are considering putting tiles up yourself you might want to make sure you have the right tools on hand. You will need something to cut unwanted tiles off of the sheet, an adhesive to stick them to the wall and grout to apply after the tiles are on the wall.

There are also tile installation experts that will be able to do the work for you. If you have purchased your backsplash tiles from a home improvement store you should be able to ask them who does their installing. If you did not buy the tiles from a local store you may want to ask around to see who is reputable and affordably priced.
