Looking For A Set Of Wire Spoke Wheels

By Susan Sanders

One of the most effective ways to improve the appearance of your vehicle a is to fit some new wheels. A new car will be fitted with steel or alloys rims and fitting four aftermarket rims will change the appearance dramatically. When you are looking for a set of wire spoke wheels there are many suppliers to choose from and it is advisable to do a little research before you order and buy.

These rims can be brought off the shelf for most modern day vehicles and many classic cars that are still being driven. There are many color, finish and size options to choose from and you will find something to suit most vehicles. You can find rims on the net and in car parts stores and the retailers will usually have a good stock that are ready to be shipped.

If you want something special you can purchase a handmade set of rims for your car which will be custom made. Depending on the the size, style and number of spokes, they will start from approximately thousand dollars per set of four. The spinner bars or center caps used to secure the rim can also be made to a unique design of your choice.

If you do not want to spend a lot of money there is the option of buying second hand rims. For around two hundred dollars you can purchase these from local scrap car dealers and auto shops and they will be ready to fit. Some of the rims may require a little restoration work to bring them up to standard and they can be re chromed or coated by a specialist company.

When you buy a set of wire spoke rims it is very important to check a few things beforehand. If the new rims are larger than the ones currently on the car you will need to make sure there is enough space for wheels to turn without touching arches. Some vehicles may also need some work doing to the brakes and suspension in order to cope with the upgraded wheels.

When you purchase aftermarket rims it is advisable to ensure you have the necessary tools needed to do a roadside wheel change. Due to the way that these rims are secured, with bar spinners or center nuts, the standard tire levers supplied with your vehicle will not be adequate. Most wire rims will come with the necessary tools but you should look into this before you buy and purchase them if you need to.

After care is also a major thing to consider when deciding to upgrade to wire rims. Washing can be a tricky job and it will take longer than cleaning a standard steel or alloy wheel. Soft toothbrushes and rags can be used for the inaccessible areas. You will also need to remove the rims regularly to inspect for wear and clean behind to avoid any corrosion.

Before you purchase the rims it is advisable to speak to an auto technician regarding the modifications that may be required. Your new wheels will be covered by a time based warranty and it is essential to keep your receipt for purchase. The original steel or alloy rims are also worth keeping for when you sell or trade the car in the future.
