The Risks And Benefits Involved In Lipo

By Brenda Butler

The number of procedures that people undergo to enhance their physical appearance are numerous, but one of the most popular is the liposuction. Lipo is usually a simple procedure involving the removal of fat from specific areas of the body. Areas where fat can be removed is the buttocks, neck, chin, thighs, arms and calves. The cannula which is the instrument that is used in these types of procedures gets inserted into the skin and using high pressure the fat is slowly sucked out.

Liposuction is usually practiced by people who wish to remove excess amount of fat from various regions of their bodies. It may be important to note that it is not a mechanism used for weight loss but rather seen as more of a cosmetic thing. In addition, it gets rid of fat and not sketch marks, dimples or cellulite. It is a procedure that is aimed at improving the overall contour of the body. In order for the procedure to be successful and have a lasting effect, one is usually advised to lead a healthy lifestyle so as to prevent the re-growth of fat cells.

Before undergoing such a procedure, it is important for one to first comprehend certain facts. For one, it is not a treatment for obesity. Meaning that, one should not undergo it with the intention of losing weight. As earlier stated, this is a procedure aimed at only removing fat and improving body contour. In addition to this, it should be done if one has tried other more natural methods of burning fat such as dieting or exercising and has not attained the desired results.

Just like in other medical procedures, side effects are always expected. It is a norm to bleed a little after such a procedure but this should not scare you. However, there are some other risks that one could experience such as bruising. This is common in most surgeries therefore should cause no cause because the bruises gradually heal with time. In addition to this, one may often vomit after the procedure and this is expected to continue but only for several days.

Inflammation is yet another side effect witnessed in a number of patients. This usually occurs in the treated regions and in serious cases the effect is prolonged for six months. Since the procedure involves making incisions, fluid may start oozing from these parts. Instead of inflammation, other patients complain of numbness but this only lasts for a few weeks.

For people with sensitive skin disorders, they are most likely to experience allergic reactions. This may be caused by some of the medications used during the procedure. The cannula machine has also been known to cause skin burns. This in turn may cause some serious issues such as damaging the skin as well as the nerves around the treatment parts.

In other cases, patients develop thrombophlebitis. Here, blood clots form around a vein in treated region thus can latter on cause an inflammation and usually occurs if the treated parts are the knees or thighs.

The benefits of liposuction overweigh the side effects. However, before undergoing the medical procedure make sure that you have had a proper discussion about the stakes involved.
